Overview

Communicating with Dance (Entry 1) is designed to develop interactive communication through the medium of dance. Candidates will develop communication skills by working in a group with peers, tutors and support workers resulting in increased confidence and self-esteem. The syllabus provides evidence towards Every Child Matters Outcomes Framework and the level aligns with Achievement Continuum Stage 4 Early Awareness & English P Scales P4 Speaking and Listening.

Communicating with Dance (Entry 1) (QCF)

Respond to a music stimulus to prepare and warm-up for movement activities. Candidates will listen to the music and move any articulated joints or body parts within their own movement capability and be able to name or identify various body parts with or without spoken language.

Candidates will keep in time to music or sound in any simple dynamic movement in any direction or level with or without a partner, standing seated or in a wheelchair. They will also be able speak about the movement when questioned by the assessor.

Taking part in any dance or movement activity working with other members of the group or staff.  Props may be used i.e. scarves, ribbon, parachutes etc. The accompaniment can be from any musical genre, a poem song or silence.  Their enjoyment of the piece can be explained verbally or using picture cards, AACs or any type of communication aid.

This can be verbally and/or in movement. A bow, curtsey or reverence can be performed with or without accompaniment whilst saying “Thank you and Goodbye.” This can be pre-arranged and lead by tutor or assessor to the whole group.
