Overview

First Steps in Communicating with Others (Entry 1) is designed to develop interactive communication. Candidates will develop communication skills by working in a group with peers, tutors and support workers resulting in increased confidence and self-esteem. The syllabus provides evidence towards Every Child Matters Outcomes Framework and the level aligns with Achievement Continuum Stage 2 Early Awareness & English P Scales P2 (i).

Communicating with Others (Entry 1) (QCF)

The candidate will indicate that they are able to acknowledge a greeting either verbally or non-verbally with a head turn/lift, smile or any intended response in their own special way.

Any item of choice will be brought to the assessment, the candidate will show an interest and if possible respond to questions from the assessor. This could be a CD, photograph, hat, game etc.

Be part of the audience and show an awareness of the activity or enter into the activity whilst staying in the room. The activity could be in any genre and may be an action song, a game, response to a musical stimulus, playing a percussion instrument etc.

The candidate will indicate that they are aware that someone has said “Goodbye” and responding either verbally or non-verbally with a head turn/lift, smile, handshake or any intended response in their own special way.
