Winners travelled from around the country to Liverpool to attend the celebration and receive their awards.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Out of 14,000 learners who took ESB Speech assessments in 2017-18, twelve were selected as winners in recognition of their outstanding oracy skills.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2150 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/esbuk.org\/web\/app\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Capture-1024x590.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"590\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The 2018 Young Speakers of the Year are:<br \/>\n<strong>Ethan Campbell\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; Elmhurst School for Boys, London<br \/>\n<strong>Karris Holm<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Bruton School for Girls, Bruton<br \/>\n<strong>Lilian Bingham<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; St Bede&#8217;s &amp; St Joseph&#8217;s Catholic College, Bradford<br \/>\n<strong>Simran Sajan<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Moreton Hall, Oswestry<br \/>\n<strong>Sebastian Clarke<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Broomfield House School, Surrey<br \/>\n<strong>Charlie Cook<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Hartismere School, Suffolk<br \/>\n<strong>Sam Colyer<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Plymouth Grove Primary School, Manchester<br \/>\n<strong>Charlotte Scurr<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Carleton House Prep School, Liverpool<br \/>\n<strong>Rosie Spence<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Bricklehurst Manor School, East Sussex<br \/>\n<strong>Alice Beveridge<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Westholme School, Blackburn<br \/>\n<strong>Hannah McKee<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Bolton School, Bolton<br \/>\n<strong>Sophie Norman<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Epsom College, Surrey<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The celebration featured three additional categories alongside the Young Speaker Awards. The &#8216;Spirit of ESB&#8217; Awards recognise and encourage the potential of all learners, rewarding individuals who showed great promise in their assessments. The Burniston Bell Award recognises teachers who demonstrate exceptional commitment to teaching ESB in their centre. Finally, the prestigious Richard Ellis Award was introduced this year in honour of ESB&#8217;s former Trustee, Richard, to reward an individual who has shown outstanding dedication to ESB.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The 2018 winners of the Spirit of ESB Award are:<br \/>\n<strong>Charlie Campbell\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; Thistley Hough Academy, Stoke<br \/>\n<strong>Safa Said\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; Sir William Burrough Primary School, London<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The 2018 winner of the Burniston Bell Award is:<br \/>\n<strong>Christine Faithfull\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; Teacher at Abbey Gate College, Chester<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The 2018 winner of the Richard Ellis Award is:<br \/>\n<strong>Merriel Halsall-Williams<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Each learner performed to an audience of family, friends and teachers, impressing everyone with their skills and abilities, and their charisma and confidence.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\" style=\"text-align: left;\">In recognition of her role as a student, teacher, examiner, International Director, Trustee, and Honorary Vice-President, Merriel Halsall-Williams was presented with the Richard Ellis Award for promoting the English Speaking Board&#8217;s values.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">ESB&#8217;s Chief Executive, Tina Renshaw, says: &#8220;The standard from all candidates put forward this year was very impressive indeed.
