Communicating with Others (Entry 1) is designed to develop interactive communication. Candidates will develop communication skills by working in a group with peers, tutors and support workers resulting in increased confidence and self-esteem. The syllabus provides evidence towards Every Child Matters Outcomes Framework and the level aligns with Achievement Continuum Stage 4 Supported Participation & English P Scales P3 (i).


Communicating with Others (Entry 1)

The candidate will make a positive response either verbally or non-verbally to a greeting. This could be a handshake, a smile, a non-verbal signal or a simple word and where possible making eye contact.


Any item of choice will be brought to the assessment, the candidate will listen carefully, show an understanding and answer questions with or without spoken language about their item. The item may be a photograph, game, hat, piece of jewellery or a photograph.


Candidates are expected to become involved in a prepared activity with support if required and waiting their turn to join in. The activity could be in any genre and may be a game, action song, response to a musical stimulus etc. with the candidate demonstrating turn taking and working with others.


The candidate will be able to respond when someone says “Goodbye” with support if necessary.  This can be in movement, sound or gesture.
