ESOL Skills for Life Assessor


English Speaking Board (International) Ltd. (ESB) is recruiting quality Speaking and Listening assessors for our UK ESOL Skills for Life qualifications at levels Entry 1 to Level 2.

We are proud of our history of providing high quality, flexible assessments. ESB employs an experienced team of external assessors that visit centres to conduct Speaking and Listening assessments across the UK.

Essential Desirable
Qualifications and Experience
  • Relevant qualifications at degree level or equivalent
  • Relevant teaching qualification or equivalent
  • Relevant experience of teaching in the U.K.
  • Experience of preparing candidates for examinations
  • Assessor qualification
  • Previous experience of examining candidates
  • Experience of preparing candidates for ESB examinations
Personal Qualities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality
  • Professional and flexible approach acting with tact and diplomacy
  • Willingness to travel throughout U.K.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good timekeeping

Knowledge and Skills
  • Good understanding of ESB ethos and philosophy
  • Good understanding of ESB qualifications
  • Good understanding of administrative processes

  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Ability to be impartial, objective and make unbiased decisions
  • Understanding of the examination process
  • Current driving licence
You should have (or be willing to obtain):
  • A current Basic Disclosure / DBS Clearance
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance

All assessors will be required to assess up to and including CEFR C2. If English is not your first language you must demonstrate English language skills at this level.

To be considered for this role, you should be flexible and available on weekdays and/or weekday evenings. You must also be willing to travel within the UK with overnight stays in some circumstances. Ideally, you will be able to commit to work a minimum of 10 days across May, June and July.

This position is offered on a self-employed basis. We offer training and an attractive level of pay for suitable candidates.

Successful candidates will be required to attend a telephone interview and, if successful, a further selection event.
