Overview

ESB’s Senior Assessments are designed to develop Spoken Language skills. Senior Two is targeted at Year 9 or 10 candidates. Tasks are mapped to the National Curriculum. Our assessment style is unique with students working with a supportive peer group; all assessment is external, in your school at a time to suit you.

Syllabus

ESB Level 2 Certificate in Graded Examinations in Speech: Senior 2 (Grade 4)

Give an informative talk on a famous or interesting person. The talk should last around 4 minutes. Give researched details of their achievements and importance. Incorporate visual aids. Candidates might talk about: a national sports person; an explorer; an entertainer; a personal role model. Brief, key word notes may be used - guidance should be given on this, and the examiner may ask to see these.

Explain the particular qualities of a chosen piece of poetry, prose or drama on the theme of a place or person and speak it imaginatively from memory. The extract should last around 2 minutes.

Read a prepared extract with dialogue and comment on the characters speaking and their place in the plot. The extract should last around 3 minutes.

Answer questions on your own sections; listen and contribute to discussions with more extended input, including questions, facts and opinions.
